Our Rosé

About The Region

Located in the most western part of Provence is the appellation, Coteaux d’Aix en Provence. The soils are predominantly stony clay and limestone delivering the crisp minerality that you will experience. The Mediterranean climate with the Mistral cold dry winds is where you will find the vineyards where Saltie Girl rosé is produced. The cooler climate, higher elevation hills of Coteaux d’Aix en Provence with the big shift in temperature from the warm days to cool nights allows the grapes to ripen more evenly with natural acidity producing a wine that we think represents the aromatics and flavors that transport you to the vineyards.

2024 Harvest Notes

The 2024 vintage for Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Rosé reflects a year of resilience and balance, marked by favorable growing conditions and meticulous vineyard management. The harvest began on August 28th and concluded on September 24th, 2024. This relatively early harvest ensured optimal grape maturity while preserving freshness and acidity.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

  • Rainfall: The region experienced 150-200mm more rainfall compared to 2023. This additional precipitation reduced hydric stress, resulting in healthier vines and better grape quality.

  • Heatwaves: While the summer saw some heatwaves, they were shorter and less intense than in previous years. This allowed for gradual and even ripening, particularly benefiting Syrah grapes, which achieved excellent maturity and balance.

  • Mistral Winds: The cooling Mistral winds played a crucial role in moderating temperatures and reducing disease pressure, contributing to the overall quality of the harvest.

CHALLENGES

  • Early-season frost and high mildew pressure posed significant threats. However, careful vineyard management helped mitigate these risks, yielding strong results despite challenges faced in the region.

GRAPE QUALITY & CHARACTERISTICS

  • The 2024 vintage is characterized by excellent balance and flavor complexity. Syrah grapes reached remarkable maturity, while Grenache, Cinsault, and other varietals contributed to the classic Provençal rosé profile of floral notes, bright wild red fruit, and refreshing acidity.  The calcareous soils of the region provided ideal water retention during dry periods, enhancing the concentration and minerality of the wines.

  • Aromas: Notes of strawberries, rose petals, and plums.

  • Palate: The wine is dry with crispy fruits and a zesty, mouthwatering finish.

  • Style: It's a classic, dry Provençal Rosé, characterized by its delicate balance between floral, wild red fruit, and acid.
